Sara, late twenties, Madeira Island, Portugal!

What is the origin of your username?
I randomly picked about 13 years ago, not long after a couple drugs were named with the same nickname and people keep thinking the nickname is after them!

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
A particular dota 2 match that we started with just 4 players, and after the enemy team told us we should give up, we ended up dominating them and winning

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
Luna! Was first hero that I started getting kills on when I was a newbie, my least favorite would be Invoker and not really because I dislike playing against him but because I have yet to learn to play him

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
Yes! swimming, long walks and treks, travelling!

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!)
My name is Polina, Polya is better actually. I’m 22 years old. Kharkiv, Ukraine

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
MMR max 5400, now ~5100
How long.. almost 6 years

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
Favorite is clinks and least favorite…veno probably)

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota?
Dubstep, rap, alternative. Even pop sometimes

Why do you play Dota?
To huge love with this heroes, animations and other in game things, (except the russian community)

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!)
My name is Luma, I am 26 years old from Jordan. I am a very awkward, anti-social person who spends most of her days infront of a computer playing videogames.

What is the origin of your username?
A few years ago I raised half a dozen monkeys, my roommate at the time was into monkeys as well so it was really a great experience. I had the chance of being a monkey mama, I was also really into Hanuman (the Monkey King), so I decided to name myself Monkey Queen since my boyfriend called me many variations of monkey royalty.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I have been playing DotA2 since 2013, a year later I started playing normal games rather than strictly bot matches. Unfortunately when I was still rather new to the game, my friend talked me into playing some ranked when it was new so I was kind of stuck with a really bad MMR number. Eversince, I’ve been stuck around the 4k MMR range. I am hoping to spam solo soon and get up to 5k at least!

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
I would love to be a manager of a team again, it’s a lot of fun and I enjoy challenging myself since I find it hard to really talk to people. I do manage my boyfriend but he’s been taking a very long break- after we split the team he was captain of.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
I know I am biased but I am my boyfriend’s biggest fan, his nickname is “hwa”. He used to be in top 30 EU players, but again taking a break from DotA especially from ladder climbing can be really tough to your ranking. I am not really a fan of anyone else other than Mushi. I tend to watch pro games when either of them are playing, hopefully someday it’ll be both playing the same game!

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) Hello! I’m Susy aka Kibi, almost 31yo (but I still feel like in my early ’20) Italian, but I’ve been living in London for 7 years. I love anime, manga, games, cosplay etc.. and I do stream Dota 2 sometimes, I haven’t been good at this recently as I’ve got a new puppy and he’s taking up so much of my time (but it’s worth it!).

What is the origin of your username? Kibi is coming from Chibi which is a Japanese slang word for “little” I’ve been using this nick for years and years and I’m very attached.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I’ve started to play Dota 2 less than 2 years ago. I’ve always been a bit geeky and passionate about games, one of my fav is still Age of Empires, so my bf introduced me to Dota 2… big mistake as now I’m obsessed! My MMR is not great, I consider myself a noob a bit, there is so much I can learn. At the moment is around 2.2k but I’m working on and I hope I will improve soon 🙂 I mainly play support and often in party with people that are quite good players, so I’m hoping they can give me tips.

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community? I hope this community will help girls to be recognised soon at a pro level. I honestly don’t think it’s fair that lots of people think that only guys can be competitive, it’s not only a “guy thing”… we deserve some recognition!

Have you ever been to a LAN? Not yet, but I’m so excited to attending to ESL One Birmingham this weekend! And I will be cosplay as Crystal Maiden.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) I’m Morri, 24, from the UK! I’m almost exclusively a support player; apparently, my most bought item in the game is Observer Wards!

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? Either whenever I get a 2-hero Shackleshot when I’m playing Windrunner, or the TI7 grand final – I actually went to a local pubstomp, held in an old-style cinema. It was beautiful!

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? Favourite is definitely Windrunner, followed by Crystal Maiden. They’re my girls and I adore playing them <3

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota? Hard-5 support, usually revolving around sacrificial plays to bail out my team – My screenname is MorriMorreu, which along with having my name in it, is an amalgamation of the Portuguese for “I died” and “they died”; that kind of thing happens so many times, I just had to make it my screenname!

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community? I have three! I’ll always have a soft spot for Dendi, I got into Dota just as Na’Vi had their heyday – but casting-wise, I’d have to say AnneDroid and Sheever; Sheever’s been an inspiration to me, and is actually why I decided to start casting – and AnneDroid’s also been inspirational; she’s shown me just how much hard work and dedication pay off!

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) My name of choice is Rinta, I am 32 years old and I currently live in UK. I only recently moved to UK from Russia, where I lived all my life until now. So yeah, I’m a legit Russian.

What is the origin of your username? Was a random nickname (meaningless set of letters, sounding like a name) that I picked for a character in MMORPG ~10 years ago. Kinda sticked since then. I’ve been repeatedly told that it means a word in Finnish (feel free to look it up)

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I’ve been playing Dota 2 since mid-2014, and my current MMR jumps around 4k (Ancient[0] badge).

Due to my introvert nature I mostly play solo-queue, but sometimes I do join stacks, preferably rather tryharding 5-stacks of similar level to mine or higher (I know, I know, so demanding. But then again, I can always just go and play solo so why wouldn’t I be?).

I was spamming offlane heroes pretty much whole of 2017, then in January 2018 I suddenly got incredibly bored of it and switched to safelane carry. Not even mentioning positions 4 or 5, because every core player naturally plays these from time to time when desired role is not available. I am not of a babyrage kind, so I am perfectly capable of playing a support if I lose a roll for my desired lane, and learned to play these positions good enough for my level with several heroes. The only position I am much worse at is mid, mostly because I just don’t practice it at all.

I often stream my games in the afternoon UK time, so feel free to check it out!

Have you ever been to a LAN? Oh have I! Before Dota 2, I was playing competitive Team Fortress 2 (yes, such a thing exists) for several years and attended quite a number of LANs for that game. Never played on stage or anything, and my highest achievement is Division 2 of ETF2L, if it tells anyone anything, but it was good fun while it lasted.

It always took me ages to find a new team if previous one disbanded, so I literally skipped every 2nd season of the league because of that. Got bored of it at some point and stopped playing. Spent a year or so nerding Starcraft II (Zerg is love, Zerg is life!), then a group of friends invited me to play in a newb Dota 2 stack, so here I am now.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be? Obviously I would love to be a professional player. I enjoy a lot playing computer games in competitive environment, and playing on stage at LAN with crowds cheering for my team sounds very exciting. Now, the question was “if you could”, and quite obviously at 4k MMR and being a rather grown up person with responsibilities – I don’t think I can ever achieve this.

Apart from that, I guess I could work as a project manager for a game developer company, but that’s more of my professional skillset, and wouldn’t differ much in practice from managing any other IT project, so I am not specifically interested in that.

Realistic goals for me in Dota 2 are to grind 5k MMR eventually and get a semi-tryhard team to play with in newby leagues & tournaments, similar to how people at their 30’s who enjoy playing soccer join a local amateur team and play with them in the evenings after work 3 times a week. Such is life.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) My name is Maria, I’m 18 from Bulgaria.

What is the origin of your username? My username currently is TheNoiseInsideMyHead and its a song that I really liked and it’s honestly just funny when people call you HEY, NOISE 😀

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota? Honestly, I adapt my playstile. For me that’s a key factor in playing just because communication is very important in a game and being unescecerally mean to people wont ever be useful. You just have to respect players and people have bad days and it just doesn’t work out sometimes. Most importanly I try to maintain a calm mind and try to not think about it too much cause that can just take a toll on your mentality.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? Apart from gaming,I mostly just work out or study.

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota? I listen to so many types of music : It ranges from Icelandic rap,to yung lean,to songs from Rupaul’s drag race and while I am streaming a lot of people are like what the heck are you listening to haha.

Username origin: It’s actually based on a book title. I’m an avid reader and needed something available

Fav Dota 2 moment: Watching Maybe Next Time as Earthshaker sneak into enemy base, throwing caution to the wind and upsetting Boston Major in the realest way ever.

Have you ever been to a LAN?: Yes, as a spectator. I’ve attended TI6, TI7, Boston Major, and Captain’s Draft 4. Got tickets to TI8 so headed to Vancouver in August.

If you could do one thing professionally in gaming: I’m an illustrator so designing merch or drawing things that get used widely is always fun  I created a shirt for our group attending TI two years in a row and it was p fun

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) I’m Extrawardinary, and I live in Queensland Australia, and I’m probably not your typical DotA2 player. I’m a 32-year-old primary school teacher who loves crafts and cardigans. Dota2 was the first video game I ever played and I only started because my brother bet me that I would be so terrible and get flamed so badly I would cry. I took him up on that bet (he won). Some 5000 hours later and I’m still here and still loving it.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? For what I lack in MMR (don’t even ask), I make up for in enthusiasm. I’ve been known to fangirl at the very store Tobiwan used to work at in front of his former colleagues at the mere mention of his name. I have Merlini in the bath (if you haven’t seen it, google image search it) as my desktop background and I have my 2017 aegis trophy on my desk at work in case I need an extra life. I’m always up for a game. My best friend is going to let me be her Crystal Maiden of Honor at her wedding.

What is the origin of your username? I have a core group of DotA friends that I play with and we’ve started to play in some small tournaments as a team and I’m so pumped that we have matching logo pictures. I play 5th position support mostly. I love supporting, and a friend of mine joked that I was “Extrawardinary” and it was so cheesy I changed my username for the memes, and it just stuck.

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote? I’ve helped grow the DotA2 GirLs facebook page as a moderator , and I’m proud of our community and the way women and men can work together to make it less toxic and more inclusive. When Desoladies came about, I was excited to have another community of likeminded people to play with and talk to about the game we all love. People have often argued with me about the need, or lack of, to create and segregate women in esports by way of having women only tournaments or groups for only females. I’m sure no one would disagree that esports is a male dominated community, and while, personally, I don’t get sexism and taunting because I’m a female, there have been many women (who play on other servers) who feel that being a woman and using in game chat will mean that the gaming experience completely changes for them. DotA2 GirLs and Desoladies provides a service to find other women to play with, communicate with and enjoy our game with. If we’re not enjoying the game, why bother?

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community? I’d love to see some female only tournaments so that women can experience competitive DotA in a less threatening environment. SEA and EU have had some amazingly successful tournaments recently and fun was had by everyone. Encouraging up and coming female gamers is something I’m passionate about. Thanks to everyone who has supported our projects over the time, and a big thanks to Desoladies for this experience.

My name is Brittany, I study biology at university, I’m 19 and I live in New Zealand!!! I gotta say the dota population of New Zealand seems pretty small, it feels like everyone just plays LoL 🙁

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
My first match was in 2014, which was for a dare or something, and I’d played a few bot matches with my brother, but I didn’t start playing for real until 2016. I don’t play all that often and probably 90% play party so I haven’t calibrated. I kind of have this idea that I’ll calibrate when I ‘get good’ or play more regularly but often I don’t play for months at a time when I’m busy with uni work, so who knows when that’ll happen!!

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
For about the first 50% of my games I played weaver carry which is far easier than learning support imo but nowadays I just pick what the team needs which is usually pos 5, or offlane if I’m lucky.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies?
I just love the idea! The difference between the amount of guys and girls in dota is pretty big so having a place where you can talk to lots of like-minded dota women is a great idea, and it helps you feel less alone in dota. I don’t know any girls irl who play dota so this is a great opportunity to make friends (although the timezone difference (and the fact that I’m shy hahaha) mean I don’t talk very much) but I’d be happy to for sure!

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
I love to make cosplays! I don’t have a lot of time, money or motivation though so one a year is about enough for me, and at the moment I am making Shadow Shaman, which is a lot of fun. I did Phantom Assassin last year although I ran out of time so some core parts of it look pretty shocking, so I’ll have to fix that up at some point lol

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) My real name is Rangsey and I’m 22 years old. I currently live in New Zealand. I play on the Australian server and go by the name Magic in game.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I have been playing Dota for around 7 years now. I first calibrated at 4.2k and my current mmr is 6.2k (Divine 5 – Rank 600).

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they? As a personal goal, I have always wanted to reach 6.5k. I was so close and reached 6380 just before the mmr reset booo! But seeing as there are now seasonal mmr resets and I’ve started working full time, I don’t think I’ll ever make it sadly. However I do still play competitively in a team and have always wanted to one day play on a big stage at a lan or tournament event. That would be my biggest dream!

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota? I would say I have quite an aggressive play style. I really enjoy being active and looking to make fights happen. I’m both a core and support player, but mainly enjoy playing pos 1 or 5. My favourite heroes are ones who are mobile and can get directly on top of the enemy such as Phantom Assassin, Spectre, and Queen of Pain. I have quite a competitive nature so I’m a big tryhard when it comes to ranked games!

Why do you play Dota? Over the years, I’ve made so many great memories because of Dota. The Australian server is really small so pretty much everyone above a certain mmr range all know each other due to repeatedly meeting in games. In that kind of community, it’s like one big family and if you get into a game with everyone who’s friends with everyone, the game feels more like an inhouse full of fun and banter rather than your average solo game. Dota for me has been a pathway to meet so many wonderful people and friends irl who I’ve shared countless memories and moments with, and for that it will never be ‘just a game’ to me.

My name is Jessica AKA Jessdel AKA TarTarIcing and I am currently 23 years old. I’m from the sunny state of California, America. Lab assistant by day and artist by night, I still game for fun and friendship.

What is the origin of your username?
I get this a ton, so I’m going to answer it all here. I was making a Fanfiction.Net account at like 15-16, but it wasn’t taking my DeviantArt handle. So, I had to pick something else and fast. I was hungry and in a funny mood, so I started with something sweet. Then I thought the suffix -tard was funny, so I put a tar in front. Then I wanted to be cute AND funny, so I put two tar’s in front to create TarTarIcing. Fanfiction.Net took it and I’ve used this name since.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
As you can tell, or if you’ve heard of me, yes. I love to draw a lot, and I drew since like 8-9 years old. Traditional or digital, I will draw whatever I want or whatever someone wants. This naturally led to basic graphic design like patterns, logos, and HUDs. I’d like to get an illustration or a graphic design certificate in the future. As implied in the other question, I occasionally write and strangely some people have liked it more than my art. I also like knitting and crocheting. Besides creative stuff, I’m very into fitness: swimming being a top passion of mine, jogging, and lifting. Zumba’s slowly making its way up though.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
If my Biology degree and my lab licenses didn’t bar me, I’d like to be an illustrator, designer, or concept artist within gaming. If not that, I’d love to do promotional stuff and make things like emojis, icons, and developing cosmetics or skins.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I started in June 2013 so technically I’d be almost five years in. Before the new system, I am 4K MMR flat. I’ve yet to see what I am under the new system, but I’m not one to solo :/

Huhu Ladies, since I am mostly lurking in the background here is some information about me. My name is Chiara, soon to be 42, and I live with my cat and two dogs in Berlin.
I say “Huhu” when I join TS or discord, it is another word for “Hello” in german, but not used much. So people started calling me Huhu …

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I got introduced to Dota in 2013 (Dota 1) and fought my way without boosting up to 3.2K, which was tough because it was the first game I ever played (this keyboard has so many buttons!) and my teacher sucked.
Over the last few weeks I lost 500 mmr, dunno, game has been weird lately :/ But one day I’m gonna be a 4K support, hell yeah.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
My roles are mainly support and roaming. I mean, I am female, right? So I am smarter than the carry-crazed guys and know how important a decent support is. I love CM though. Due to my role, I probably play a tat too careful, but I am working on it.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
If anything professional it would be giving my voice to a hero or announcer.

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
One of the best Dota moments was when I picked up a rapier as Lich in a very difficult game, and my team went bananas over it, even wanted me to suicide, so they can pick it up. I ended the game by smashing their fountain with my rapier. The other Dota moments I love re those when we meet in real life, friends coming together from all sorts of countries to celebrate a birthday, New Years, going to an ESL or just having a LAN party.

Why do you play Dota?
I met a lot of amazing people over the years, some have become true friends, and that is what I love most about Dota, besides the fact that it is an incredibly complex and intense game.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!)
I’m Paige, I’m 25 years old and I live in Canada. I go by Hex online. Hex is a pretty popular handle so in many places I go by variations like ‘Actually Hex’ on steam, ‘Hexadecimal’ and ‘thebase16’ in most other places. They’re all based on the number system Hexadecimal which most people are familiar with as the way you define colour on the web. I’m a graphic designer and web developer so it’s pretty pertinent to my work.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I got a Dota beta key in late 2012 but i didn’t start playing more seriously until mid 2013. I had been a fan of league of legends until I met HawtKoffee. He was doing cool things in the Dota community and so I made the switch. The fist tourney I watched was TI3 and i remember being completely amused by Na’Vi’s fountain hooks. It really cemented my love for the game. Just the idea that something this goofy could be pulled out at a huge tournament? It made Dota feel dynamic and alive and evolving in a way that was really appealing. It made it seem like Dota was really being defined by the people who play it.

I don’t know what my MMR is because i don’t play ranked because i love myself

Have you ever been to a LAN?
My first LAN was actually TI4! Sometime after TI3 I got involved in the workshop scene. HawtKoffee and I ended up with an item in-game and a personal invite to TI4. It seems crazy that I went from sitting on my couch to Key Arena in a matter of months, but that’s what happened. Suddenly I was meeting amazing, kind, skilled people from the Dota community IN PERSON. It was an incredible experience.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
My favourite personality in the Dota 2 community is PROBABLY SirActionSlacks. I KNOW BUT JUST HEAR ME OUT. I first met slacks at TI6. HawtKoffee and I were in the workshop area just hanging out and handing out posters. Slacks came over and gave Hawf and I each a humungous hug. It felt like a GENUINE hug too, not like a PR hug. Best hug NA. Since then Hawf has worked with Slacks on a few projects (like Midas Mode) and he sounds like a joy to work with. He’s a really passionate, fun loving, guy and it’s really no surprise to me that he’s risen to prominence in the community.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
My Dota related goals are always just get another set into the game. Seeing our work in game is the best feeling. Seeing Pro Players use our sets is even better! HOPEFULLY you’ll see some of our work in game sooner rather than later 😉

My OTHER Dota-related goal is to make it to TI this year. We weren’t able to make it out to Seattle last year but THIS YEAR we’re hoping that we can make the trek to the west coast and see everyone’s faces again!!

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote?

That’s all the space I have but i wanna shout out to beastcoast, the esports org I’m working with right now. (@beastcoastgg, http://www.beastcoast.gg/) We don’t have a dota team (yet) but we DO sponsor sheepsticked’s stream. We’re all huge fans of dota and it’s definitely part of our future dreams. Consider checking us out! We have great merch! #makewaves

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!)
My online name is Soong45 (or Snoog) I am 24 and I am from Wales. I’m currently studying Software Engineering at university.

What is the origin of your username?
I’m a big Star Trek fan, and my username originated from Dr Noonien Soong. Soong was taken, so I just stuck the first number that came into my head on the end. Some people online call me Snoog because it got mispronounced by a streamer (Shoutout to Shaneomad) and it just stuck.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I’ve been playing Dota since 2013 and achieved 4k mmr before the system changeover. I haven’t calibrated my solo again yet, but my party is at Ancient 1. One day, I’d like to reach whatever 5k mmr is now, but I have a long way to go before getting there.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
Position 5 supporting is my main thing. I have played a loooooooooot of Dazzle when learning to play, and as a result a lot of my play-style is very sacrificial. It’s fun saving my teammates and enabling them to be the best cores they can be! I’m now slowly learning to improve at other positions.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?Outside of Dota, I enjoy playing the piano and occasionally baking/cooking lots of tasty food. I’m also learning to speak Swedish, and hope I might move there one day.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) My real name is Atlquetzalli, I’m 27. My grandma started calling me Ketzi ever since I was a baby, so I just go by that all the time, since it’s easier for everyone to say! I’m originally from Mexico, but I moved to California to study Media Arts in 2009. I got a Work Visa soon after I graduated and then met my husband. So, Los Angeles became my new home!

What is the origin of your username? “Kesito” is the misspelled version of the word “quesito” which means “little cheese” in Spanish. Once I told my best friend from school a dumb joke, so she told me: “Your brain is full of cheese, I’m just gonna call you queso from now on.” My other friends eventually started calling me queso or quesito since they thought it sounds similar to Ketzi or Ketzita.

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? Aside from the few epic comebacks in my games, my favorite experience of Dota2 as a whole was attending TI7. I had been wanting to go for several years and not only did I get to meet my favorite personalities, but I also met a lot of my long time Steam friends I had been playing Dota with. It was really fun watching the games together live. It was one of my most memorable vacations of my life.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies? I love how it supports all women in gaming, which I believe also improves the general Dota2 community overall. Over the years I’ve been noticing less “OMG it’s a Grill!!” related reactions after talking over the mic in my games. I guess more people are realizing women play video games too.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota? To easily put it, I would call it defensive. But what I actually enjoy doing is frustrating the enemy’s initiation either by rotating to save team mates, countering a strong ultimate or just by placing the right wards around the map to anticipate the other team’s moves.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? When I’m not drawing for work, I draw for leisure. I normally draw digitally for my projects, but I love spending money on art supplies and experiment with different mediums. Also, as an animator I really enjoy watching cartoons and Anime.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!)
My name is Luyi Ren, 23 and I live in California

What is the origin of your username?
I really like pugs and I just came up with it one day and havent changed my screen name since.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I’ve been playing DOTA for about 4 years and I’m sadly only 3.4k

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
My favorite DOTA 2 moment is when I was playing AA and I 360 no scoped this Shadow Fiend with my ult at his fountain

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community?
I wish desoladies would have some more programs to help women be involved in more carry roles in the DOTA community

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
My favorite hero is vengeful spirit. This was my first hero that I played when I started. My least favorite hero would be Antimage or Beast master.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
It sounds kind of lame but if I could do something professionally in gaming, I would program them. It’s really enjoyable to create games however its impossible to make a living out of unless you’re amazing at it

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
My favorite pro player is Eternal Envy. When he’s upset he drops all his items, it’s great. How is he even a pro?

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
One of my longest goals is to learn to carry and be confident about it. It’s really hard to gather the courage as a girl player to run a core mid. You have to be aggressive and make big calls and I’m just not.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
My playstyle in DOTA is very defensive and careful. I only go in if I can secure kills and vision is important.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies?
My favorite thing about desoladies is how friendly it is. It makes me feel really comfortable knowing that I’m not surrounded by sweaty guys all the time.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
My other main hobby is Computer Science. I really enjoy solving puzzles and creating things out of JAVA. Once I start, I have a hard time stopping.

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota?
I like listening to alternative rock or pop music when I play DOTA, it hypes me up.

What is your favorite meme lane, team comp, or build?
My favorite team comp was actually this team comp that destroyed me a few patches ago. Run Necro, Witch Doctor and pretty much heals on anyone and run down mid. We lost within 25 minutes. Fastest rack time of my life.

Why do you play Dota?
I play DOTA because this is my version of ‘going to the bar with friends’. It’s not just a community, it’s a culture now. I use this game to socialize. I have found some pretty great friends and even a boyfriend. They’re online for me if I want to talk and much more. DOTA has actually been a very important part of my life. Vacation has become DOTA because I get to go to Seattle and see the pros play. It’s a time to de-stress after a tiring day from class.

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote?
I think a really cool project I’d like to start or get to know about is programming DOTA arcade games. I think that would be super fun.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!)
I’m Hannah the spanner, known online as spanner. I’m 29 and I work as a freelance Data Scientist in London.

Have you ever been to a LAN?
My friends have frequent LANs. I used to think LANs were pretty dorky, but they were hosted by my flatmates and they shouted so much that I couldn’t concentrate on doing anything else at the same time. If you can’t beat them, join them – that’s how I became a Dota 2 player. Since then I was the one to persuade my friends to go to ESL One Hamburg, my first experience at a professional LAN.

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
When I was playing, a Lycan game in my first 6 months of Dota where we were losing the whole game and in the final teamfight the opponents just forgot about me – you can guess what happened!
Watching Miracle play Invoker at ESL One Hamburg live when Liquid were feeding him kill after kill with sunstrike was probably my favourite spectating moment.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
I think it could be fun to work on one of those bots like the Open AI shadow fiend, but it’s not something I’ve looked in to.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
I play violin and go climbing.

What is your favorite meme lane, team comp, or build?
In solo queue I did a dark seer and the old invis broodmother lane that made the enemy carry rage quit – very satisfying.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!
Hi! I’m Tiffany or “RoyalAmes.” I graduated college last year and am now based in the Los Angeles area working with Beyond The Summit!

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
I love going to TI, every time I go it’s an amazing experience to be surrounded by friends I met through Dota 2 and just being in the stadium surrounded by other Dota 2 fans. There’s a sense of kinship there no matter who you’re rooting for, and it’s wonderful.

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community?
I would love for it to be normalized that women play Dota 2 and games in general. We’re here, and we play just as well (and just as badly) as anyone else!

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
I don’t play much anymore but when I did, I usually played support. And I tended to be a really self-sacrificing support player. Like to the point that the friends I played with often would tell me to stop giving them farm and to take it myself.

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote?
Yes! Shoutout to Beyond The Summit and the amazing family there I get to work with. I also am starting to do more YouTube content including weekly vlogs if you’d like to check them out!

What is your name, age, and location? Valerie T, 28, Texas, USA

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I’ve been playing Dota ever since it was a custom game on Warcraft…. If I had to put a year on it, it must’ve been since 2006. My MMR is 2.6K. Nothing special and the ladder climb has been tough, but still trucking through.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? Favorite hero hands down is Dark Willow; so glad they added her, she’s great! I play her most games since support is always lacking and her skills are good for team fights. Least favorite is probably Underlord because he has a low impact on the game if he isn’t played right.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community? I’ve always been a fan of Dendi from Na’Vi. Although the team has been struggling since TI2, I dream of a comeback. Dendi’s Pudge was one of my favorite things to watch back in the day.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
Always a hard 5. If I’m lucky, I get to play a 4! Every good team needs a support. I like playing zoning heroes like Dark Willow or Elder Titan. Always carrying like 2 or 3 TP’s so I can be all over the map and try to keep the vision game strong.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!)
Hello friends, I am Winter from Norway. I am 32 years old and a biologist by education, although I am not currently doing research. Some of you might already know me from the Desoladies stream team.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I have been playing dota for 3 years, and I am now 3k solo and party. I climbed a lot at the end of 2017, and I plan to continue climbing this year.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
I love skiing, sailing and snowboarding, among other things. Most of my hobbies are very seasonal, so it’s kind of nice to have one hobby that I can go to whenever I feel like it.

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
In general, I love stacks with friends where we get a really challenging game, and everyone is playing at their best. You know those games where you really are perfectly matched, and one team wins just on skill and a good call. Even if I lose a game like that I am still thoroughly enjoying the gameplay.

Of course, I have to mention casting the FSL EU Female Dota 2 League finals this autumn. It was an incredible experience, and the gameplay was amazing. I hope to be able to do more of this in the future.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies?
Simply that it is there. Dota can be a harsh place for anyone starting out, and even more so if you are a woman. I am very grateful for Desoladies’ existence, and proud to be a member of it.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) My name is Jenny, I’m currently 26 and living in California.

What is the origin of your username? My username actually came from the word “ichor” which is the gorgeous oozy stuff that drips off Bane, and also what he was made of. (Among other things) I was trying to come up with a new username when i got over my old one (from when I was a kid), and I really liked the sound of Ichor. I tried to play with the spelling and decided on Eykorr. Which I really like the look of but didn’t really thing that most people would pronounce it “ey-core” instead of “eye-core”. I pronounce it “Eye-core” though.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I’ve been playing Dota since Beta when you needed a key, I’ve been slacking on it a lot lately but back in the day my MMR was at 3.1k. Now a days I feel like I’m just more terrible.

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? Black hoooole. I love me some purple peeps

Have you ever been to a LAN? I adore LANs and which I had more time and more friends who played dota IRL.

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community? I honestly just love how accepting the Desoladies group is. Even though I can’t be as active as I’d like to, I’ve made some great friends and desoladies seem to always watch out for each other and help each other out. I’m hoping that this community will encourage people to be as accepting and friendly. Before desoladies I only played with whatever friends I had and I found a lot of people would just not play with eachother if one was worse than the other instead of enjoying the game and helping the other grow.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? Favorite? Can you guess? Baneeeee. My Angel. Least favorite? I guess I never really cared for Axe. Nothing too crazy though

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be? I would love to be a host/personality. I would like to interview people or showcase cosplays or art. I’m not looking to commentate. It would just be fun to be involved and out there!

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community? Currently I really enjoy watching Slacks. He’s really out there and fun.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they? I just want to get better at the game. I also really just enjoy the dota cosplay community so I’d LOVE to do something more next year and meet more dota friends through cosplay.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota? I’m heavily into ganking. I’m really aggressive. But I also react slow, so I mess up a lot. lmao.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies? All the acceptance and support between everyone! Its like everyone is friends.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? I love cosplaying, drawing, painting, crafting and I LOVE TO EAT.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) I’m ashy, and I’m a high school student about to turn 18 from Estonia.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? my first few matches were in the middle of 2013, but I only really got into the game from early 2015 onwards – I’ve been on a hiatus for the last four-five months due to being in final year of school, though. I’m very wary of solo ranked, but I calibrated in the low 2000s for party, though most sites seem to estimate I’m around 3k.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? my most played/”main” is definitely Crystal Maiden, these days I love showing off the full set of immortals/shinies I have on her :joy: shoutouts also to Ogre Magi and Shadow Shaman, as they were the heroes I learned to play on, and I’ve had a ton of fun whenever I’ve played Io. I don’t really enjoy playing against a few – pre-rework Brood, Techies, Clinkz come to mind – but I generally feel it’s more about player skill and respect rather than a certain hero just being something that automatically tilts me. I don’t really mind losing as long as my team takes it graciously instead of starting to blame teammates.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they? I’d like to finally calibrate solo and see how good the game actually thinks I am (I’m one of those people who sometimes slips into the “I’d be winning all my games if my teammates weren’t bad” mentality). some day, I’d also like to get to the same MMR as my ex boyfriend who got me into this game, to show him I’m not as hopeless a student as he thought – but apparently he’s Ancient 1 now/around 4.3k by the old system, so that might take quite a while.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies? I love the inclusive environment and how welcomed I’ve felt from the start – admittedly, I was quite skeptical at first about whether there really is a need for a ‘girls-only’ space for Dota, but I’ve definitely been won over. these days, it’s also the main place I get my Dota news/info from because of my hiatus, so if it weren’t for y’all I’d have no idea what was going on with the game.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? I have too many to keep track of – I’m one of those people who tries out everything and then moves on really quickly – but the things that have more or less stuck for now are sewing, knitting, other video games (currently really into Overwatch and Warframe), and Japanese street fashions, particularly EGL and kitsuke/wearing kimono.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) Hello, I’m Amina, I’m 18 and I’m from Algeria.

What is the origin of your username? I saw AdmiralBulldog use that name for a while, 1.5 years ago, it’s simple and I liked it so I started using it and it just stuck. :3

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I have been playing for 2.5 years and I’m 2.5k.

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? ODPixel rapping to w33’s Timbersaw in DreamLeague final.

Have you ever been to a LAN? Sadly not, but I’d love to, someday.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? My favorite hero is hands down Windwaifu, and my least favorite to play against are Storm Spirit and Tinker

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they? Yes, to be the best wr player in the world.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies? The tolerance and acceptance between members.^^

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota? I don’t always listen to music while playing, but when I do it’s future bass, electronic, chill and trap genres

Why do you play Dota? It makes me happy .-.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) My actual name is Amanda. I’m a 25 year old Swedish geek who is currently changing from bookseller to programmer (or so I hope)!

What is the origin of your username? My dad picked it for me when I signed up for my first incognito email a long time ago. Each letter represents one of my given names, but I didn’t have enough of them to make it sound okey when you say it out loud – so we also added the first letter of our family dogs name (but apparantly nobody pronounce it like we do anyway, heh).

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? I love reading, be it in physical form or audio. I love discussing fantasy and sci-fi books! I enjoy most competative things like escape rooms and board games, but also to just hang out at a bar with friends and play co-op card games.

Why do you play Dota? I asked myself that the first 50 hours I played. I was just horrible at it – it was like nothing I had played before. I never played WOW or any other MMO game, and definately not any MOBA games. It never occured to me that they could be equally fun as my story games, or my action FPS games. After 50 hours though, I was sold. I was so fascinated with how much there was to learn and to keep track of during EVERY game. Plus, I got to know new people that I could play and talk to. And I didn’t even have to go out!

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? The moment I first played a game without anyone commenting on me being a girl. Second favorite? Playing a whole game without any gender- or sexuality-related swear words. It just gets so tiring to comment on it… Apart from that, a favorite moment was when we threw up most of the enemy team on top of a ward cliff. And then killed the courier when they tried to get a TP!

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) Hello, my name is Mihaela, I just made 26 years, currently I am leaving in Iasi, Romania. A lot of people asked me if w33 is my brother, no he is not :D.

What is the origin of your username? My username is composed of “GPlay”, which is a client for Dota 1 made by my brother (I helped as well at coding and stuff), and my name “Mihaela”.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I’m playing dota for more than 8 years. I started to play when I was 17 years old if I remember well. My current MMR is around 5.3k, the highest MMR that I had was 5.8k. I got Divine 2 after calibration.

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? My favorite Dota 2 moment is when I have very bad game and in the end I win.

Have you ever been to a LAN? Yes, I went to several LANs, it was small ones organized by my university. One time we destroyed everyone and we ranked first and another time second place.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? My favorite heroes are Necrophos, Omniknight and Ancient Apparation. Least favorite Meepo.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community? I’ve always loved Matumbaman, he is very nice guy and full of humor.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they? I want to reach 6k MMR at Solo and get Divine 5.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota? I always love to communicate with the team, this is the most important part in Dota. Play like a team = win the game. Also sometimes it is necessary to keep the moralof the team up and make them play relaxed and don’t rage.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? I love to swim, listen music and travel.

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota? Dubstep, Drum n Bass and Rock. I need agressivesongs to play good.

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote? My brother has 7k Solo MMR, Divine 5, he is offlane player, follow him if you want to learn something new ! 😀 https://www.twitch.tv/broodka

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) Hey, I’m Charlotte! I’m 21, and from Edinburgh, Scotland. What is the origin of your username? It came from a couple years back when I first got super into TF2. Bonus points for people who can guess who I mained, haha.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they? In general I’d just love to get better! I played Dota on and off since about 2014, but only actually settled down and learned the game properly in about March this year. I only recently became confident in my abilities enough to start calibrating, and I’m currently about halfway through my placements. Fingers crossed for a decent starting MMR! ;-;

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota? I definitely gravitate towards positions 3, 4, and 5 the most. I love playing Oracle and Rubick in 5, Nyx Assassin and Night Stalker in 4, and Phoenix and Windranger in 3.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? Cosplay is a big favourite of mine, I’ve got a half-finished Juggernaut cosplay sitting in my warddrobe that I hope to find the time and money to finish soon! I also love musicals, I was in a sell-out production of Green Day’s American Idiot in 2016 at the Edinburgh Fringe, which was a fantastic experience that I’d love to do again in the future. I’m very into goth fashion, if you can consider that a hobby also, haha. I also love playing DND, mixology, digital art, sewing, singing, and playing bass guitar.

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota? I listen to a little bit of everything. The most common genres can probably be narrowed down to rock, metal, industrial and musicals. One of these things is not like the others. But it fits just fine v:

Why do you play Dota? I play Dota because I find it feels much more fulfilling and impactful to do well in this game than it does in any other I’ve played. Not only that, but Dota is a game that just keeps you guessing. It feels a lot more high-risk-high-reward than a lot of other multiplayer games I play, you could be behind for 30 minutes, but then one small mis-play can turn the whole game on its head. It’s never a dull day when you’re playing Dota.

What is the origin of your username?
My username changes ALOT! My twitch name annchri is a mash of my first and middle names. Most of my other screenames are based on memes or inside jokes.

Have you ever been to a LAN? Not yet, watch this space!

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? At the moment i’m learning how to 3D model and it’s so much fun! To try and practise I’m modelling my desk to scale and I might stream it! I also enjoy photography, painting and anything earth science related!

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be? That’s a tough one! Anything that involved travelling and games, so probably events!

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota? Liquid Drum and Bass helps me stay calm and concentrate!

Why do you play Dota? I play because every game can be different and patches make the game new and fresh! There are infinite possibilities!

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
Experiencing in person OG’s Frankfurt major win, it was like a dream come true and my legs almost broke in. I also cried :’]

Have you ever been to a LAN? Been very fortunate to attend many lans, nothing beats my first TI, which was TI5, where everything was new to me. It was also my first lan experience ever.

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community? I’m hoping it will help the Dota community to learn to accept their fellow female players, and that we are serious about it.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? My fav hero is constantly changing as I like to learn Heroes out of my comfort zone. But I guess wind ranger is my most played hero if that counts for anything :>

Name age location? I’m Frenda, I’m 21, and I’m from the New York area just outside the city.

What is the origin of your username? Frenda is a character from an anime I don’t watch but I thought it was a cute name so I started using it as a nickname and it just stuck.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I’ve been playing since TI4, I’m 4.2k.

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? TI6 EG vs Ehome game 1 or EG winning ti5.

Have you ever been to a LAN? I went to ESLNY 2015, but I got sick and couldn’t go to the second day. I was gonna go to the Boston Major but I couldn’t get finals tickets :’(. I plan on going to Captains Draft in January though!

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? My favorite hero to play is probably Timbersaw, but theres a special place in my heart for Legion Commander. I can’t stand Pudge though; I ban him in every game because I just hate what he does to the laning phase.

What is your favorite meme lane, team comp, or build? Tusk Aghs with Bloodseeker!

Name age location? My name is Gracie (But I’m Fwivo online). I’m from Idaho, USA and I’m 21 years old.

Favorite Dota 2 moment? My friends and I beat PPD in a pub game that was like an hour and a half long (we all dislike PPD so it felt good)

Favorite heroes? My waifus are: Pugna, CM, and Techies but most int heroes are my waifus. The hero I hate the most is weaver.

Have you ever been to a LAN? I’ve been to too many to count. I run a Dota 2 club at my school and we have LAN parties every other weekend!

Favorite meme team The ones I made are Team Taunt™ (only pick heroes with the best taunts and annoy enemies) and Team AARP™: you pick AA, RP (magnus), and then an amalgamation of old heroes like kotl, sniper, gyro etc (AARP is a service that lots of old people use). Both have been confirmed to have 100% win rate by me.

Why do I play Dota? hats

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) – Hello! My name is Kimberly, I’m 22 and I’m from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Some people know me as ‘Kimberry’!

What is the origin of your username? – It’s a silly story, but it started as a joke because my high school math teacher couldn’t pronounce my name properly due to her accent and would end up calling me Kimberry! So it just stuck and cause I couldn’t think of anything else at the time, I just ran with it.

Have you ever been to a LAN? – I’ve been to quite a few, but the biggest one I’ve been to was the Manila Majors. It was the most amazing experience ever. The crowd was so hyped and the games were so great. The atmosphere was awesome.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be? – I’ve tried many things in Dota2, but the one that I love the most would be managing. I used to manage a few SEA Dota2 teams and there’s nothing like being a part of a family that grows, learns and wins together.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? – When I’m not gaming, my go-to activity is reading!

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies? – I love that every one here is so welcoming and supportive of each other. I love meeting and being around people who share the same passion as me as well. It’s also not just about Dota2 here as well, every one is willing to help you with anything and it’s always nice to have a space with no judgment/pressure/negativity smiley

What is the origin of your username? It’s an acronym of my favorite handles/nicknames. I like ’em unpronounceable.

Have you ever been to a LAN? Yes! Fun fact: In college, I set up a router specifically for Diablo 2 LANs in my dorm.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota? P4/P5 Support. I fit into the support sterotype, which stems from my World of Warcraft Resto Shaman days (Horde. Duh.)

What was your favorite DOTA 2 moment? Definitely attending TI7 this year watching the Team Liquid v Virtus Pro match on the outside lawn. Everything was insane: the matchup, crowd, weather, even the wandering cosplayers under the jumbotron.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? Witch Doctor, Disruptor and Shadow Sham are all go-tos for me. Kotl was up there as well, but might become my least favorite with how many new wannabe offlane kotls are running around post TI7 thanks to Gh.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies? I enjoy Desoladies’ savory games without the salt. DOTA 2 unfortunately fans flame wars, but the Desoladies community keeps everyone cool, calm and refreshed. I’m glad to be a part of it.

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote? What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) Genevieve, 22 (on Sept, 26th!), Los Angeles

What is the origin of your username? I was always the tallest among my friends, I was nicknamed giraffe because of my girafferous height.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I have been playing dota since Jan. of 2014. As for mmr, it’s all about the passion for the game 😉

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? My favorite dota 2 moment is owning my bf in a 1v1 mid. (@warpigs)

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community? I would love to start seeing more females in the Dota 2 pro scene and even see all female teams at TI! If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be? If I had the opportunity to do anything in professional gaming I would love to be a player, but in the real world, I would like the chance to cast as well.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community? Zai is bae.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies? I love the fact that the community exists and always gives encouragement, in real life, and in dota.

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) Hi! I’m Annabelle Fischer (Abelle), I’m 27 and I’m currently living in Berlin, Germany (but I moved here from Toronto, Canada less than a year ago)

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I’ve been playing Dota since late 2012, and started watching shortly after TI2. My MMR hovers right around the 3k mark, though my party MMR has tanked into the mid 2ks lately.

Have you ever been to a LAN? Yup! First LAN was TI6, which I went to on my own. I’ve been to WESG in China, the Kiev Major and TI7 for work since I started my current job (writing for joinDOTA :D).

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community? Introducing more women to Dota 2 means more rad ladies to stack with, and having visible women in the community normalizes it for the types that are surprised women exist 😛

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? Tidehunter  I played a ton of him when I first got into Dota 2, and consequently ended up cheering for No Tidehunter/Alliance, which really got me hooked on esports. I don’t play him much any more, but it’s more of a sentimental thing. I’m also a filthy Sniper picker when the mood grabs me.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community? Can I just pick an entire region? I got sucked into the world of Chinese Dota when Black^ was on Vici Gaming, and now I love learning all I can about Chinese players and teams. This worked out for me nicely since I was cheering for Wings at TI6. HYPE

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? I don’t have much time/funds for it, but I like to dabble in sewing and cosplay. I sewed myself a Tidehunter onesie, which I used to enter the TI7 cosplay contest.

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote? joinDOTA! I’m doing my best to keep it updated with interesting content, and we’ve got a rad League now in the 11th season (EU/NA and SEA!) which anyone can join. It’s a great place to get some competitive games in if you have a stack of five that wants to improve together.

What is your name, age, and location? My name is Pinky! Really! Its been my nickname since I was young. I had bright pink hair in middle school so all of the students and teachers started calling me Pinky so the name has stuck … I am 24 yrs old and live in the mountains in beautiful Northern California

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? i’ve been playing Dota 2 for over a year now but used to play it when it was a mod on War 3 … My mmr is 2.3k

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? any time I play Rubick and steal hook from pudge , oh the fun 🙂

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community? I think Desoladies just provides a great place for female only players to comfortabley mingle and play with one another in such a crazy , somewhat toxic community , esp towards females … It’s like a safe haven

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community? Ramsez , Dendi , Slacks , w33

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they? Reach 4k by next summer! smile And meet more awesome people!

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies? I believe groups like this in the gaming community are essential. I have met a handful of female gamers that don’t enjoy playing with other females for whatever reason?! To me I feel like we should help our fellow sistas out and stick together! I feel like Desoladies provides that and it’s awesome 🙂

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? oh yeahh , gardening , hiking , playing music , and DnD

Why do you play Dota? Dota has got to be the most mind stimulating, critical thinking game that I play … There are so many aspects to it that make it a difficult game to even begin to master. It’s always different and a challenge and I love it.

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote? TEAM SAME TEAM

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) I’m Corimon! Or Cori for short, whichever you prefer. I’m old but not too old, and I currently reside in the beautiful state of Washington.

What is the origin of your username? My younger sister came up with it way back when. She was obsessed with Pokemon and decided to call me Corimon on multiple occassions. It’s just sort of stuck since.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR? I have been playing Dota 2 since August of 2012, so about 5 years now, and my MMR is 3775! I hope to one day become a grindlord and possibly change that, but premade stacks are where I have the most fun (and that sweet Hardcore Ninja).

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota? The music that tends to be my go-to are my weeb mixes. But that can often be interchangable with electronic music or kpop!

What is your favorite meme lane, team comp, or build? Penta-pushing mid, hands down. No one ever seems down for it, but the 3 games I ever got to do it were the most fun I’ve ever had trolling (and if I recall correctly, still a 100% winrate for me!).

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community? Hello, S4!

Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/corimon
Twitter: http://twitter.com/coriimon
Instagram: http://instagram.com/corimon

What is your name, age, and location? (Or please introduce yourself!) My name is Inah, I’m 27 years old and I live in Canada!

What is the origin of your username? The origin of my username, Chibista, is from fusing chibi and fashionista, I know it’s super cheesy – sorry!

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community? To inspire all genders to compete professionally and bring light to unfair treatment of women/other genders in Dota 2. And of course, to have such a strong sense of community that other communities within the space are envious of haha!

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community? Mushi! I’ve always liked Mushi as a player since I started playing Dota 2. However, I do have to say that my boyfriend, Cliquez, is my favourite player :p

Why do you play Dota? I started playing Dota in 2012 to get over a really bad relationship, and it’s suffice to say that Dota 2 really helped me overcome that rough patch in my life. It’s been said many times before but it’s really true, Dota 2 can make you forget about the bad things with a match at a time 🙂

Have you ever been to a LAN? Yes, I have! Tons of it. However, I’m usually the manager instead of a player 🙁

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be? I would prefer to be a professional player in gaming, it’s something I have tried to do but never succeeded at. I always looked up to and admired professional gamers because even with 6000+ hours of Dota 2, I’m still pretty bad at it, lol.

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote? Yes! My team and I launched an awesome esports/gaming platform called Esports Tickets, please check it out on esports-tickets.com!

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment? My favorite Dota 2 moment (so far!) was the final series at the Boston Major. It was such a great tournament in a beautiful venue. The theater was so small, you’d bump into pros who were walking down the stairs or buying a beer. It felt way more personal than TI, like watching Dota with a bunch of your friends. Game 3 was absolutely electric with the 300-style cheers and everyone jumping out of their chairs and screaming. And of course, Maybe Next Time’s Earthshaker’s final assault on the OG Ancient was one of the best moments in Dota history. I felt lucky to be there.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? My favorite hero is Shadow Shaman! In Desoladies inhouses, I am known for my Shadow Shaman Shadow Blade build. It’s…not super successful but it’s also never not funny. My least favorite hero is probably Slark. He’s one of those heroes where the enemy version is always godlike and your team’s Slark is as effective as a goldfish. Even though he’s out of the meta, I still hate him. He’ll stay out if he knows what’s good for him.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming? My other main hobbies are writing and crocheting. I’ve been a freelance writer and copy editor since 2011. Most of my paid work is dry and boring, but I am working on some dystopian sci-fi on the side. As for crocheting, I’ve been doing it on and off for about two years now. My crochet skills are mediocre, but I enjoy the physical nature of holding the yarn and creating something with my hands. It’s a nice balance to my digital hobbies of gaming and writing.

i’m caitlin but i have managed to make most people on the internet call me cat since my twitch name is cat6669, a name i came up w when i was an edge fiend in 2012

Why do you play Dota?
i play dota because i’m pretty sure i get off on the idea of constantly learning something/feeling yourself improve at it. i played a lot of sports growing up (like a lot lol) and was recruited for college soccer etc but i bailed last minute. i’m hella competitive so i think i used dota to replace that outlet for me

Have you ever been to a LAN?
i’ve been to…uhhh…7 LANs now i do believe? i’ve been to the international 4 times, dreamhack atlanta, and ESL NY twice when they had dota (honestly what the hell ESL can u pls give NY dota back?????)

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your mmr?
i’ve been playing dota for 4 years or so now, my current mmr is 4.2k. i peaked at 4.6 but it seems i um had a manic episode and spiraled out 800 mmr because my brain was like “lol i have to win at some point” but jokes on me i forgot i was playing dota!! i’m working my way back tho

Who is your favorite hero?
i think right now my favorite hero is pudge since i am a self serving gamer. i’ve recently decided that if i’m going to play, i’m going to play heroes i sincerely enjoy bc woooo Playing Games For Fun!! see: recent manic episode reference above, i’m just tryna regain traction before taking dota toooo seriously again. i think my least favorite hero currently is ogre magi bc i find myself saying “i am so damn bored” aloud past 20 min every time i accidentally pick him

My boy, ARTEEZY!

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
Just this summer I started sailing! smiley I’m also working on my goal of reading 40 books this year.

Why do you play Dota?
It’s the right mixture of fun and challenging. I love the teamwork and hilarity.

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota?
The sweet, sweet music of last hit gold.

Instagram: theuniversalrose

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
Game development or soundtrack composition. Ideally both at once.

Do you have any other projects or groups you are affiliated with that you would like to give a shoutout to or promote?
Momo, dzbug, EmmyDiesAlone, MOSS, KATA-, and everyone else who helped make Armlet Toggirls happen!

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
I think I have to give this one to Purge, because if it weren’t for the Welcome to Dota, You Suck guide, I’d probably still be playing League.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
Some call it Rat Dota. I call it having a damn good time, ya haters.

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community?
Simply put, I want the whole gaming community to be such that a woman is just another individual and nothing else. I want a community that recognizes that women exist throughout the skill distribution, play a variety of roles (in the game and in the community), and ought to be respected for their skill or the content they create, regardless of their sexual desirability. Though the larger Dota 2 community is a long way from that ideal, these notions are obvious to anyone who has seen the vibrance and diversity of Desoladies members. I want us to continue being awesome and providing a place for women to receive the respect they deserve.

I guess i just want it to be normal that other girls play dota so i can meet them in game and irl so shit like this doesnt happen: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=251175395
i just dont like the stereotype that we’re all cosplayers, streamers and support players.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
Merlini! by far. ive been an mym merlini fangirl since wc3. his forum posts basically taught me dota so he was my purge so to speak.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
I am currently pursuing my MA in Behavioral/Experimental Psych with a focus on visual cognition. So a career at any developer as a behavioral analyst would be ideal. (Looking at you, Valve.) Secondary to that would be perhaps managing a team? Streaming? Hmm, I’ll have to give this some more thought.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
My favorite heroes are the twin edgelords of terrorblade and arcwarden. their lines and voices are the sort that make me repeat them after a kill (YOU ARE NOW THE WARD OF DEATH ITSELF.) My least favorite is invoker and storm both of who’ s personalities i can only describe as “very strangleable”

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
I like making websites! im also a body builder, thai kickboxing instructor and snowboarding instructor.

My only shoutout is to the desoladies and my old team, the armlet toggirls.
Also AFK GG lounge (http://www.afkgg.com/) which frequently hosts the local dota tournaments that me and my friends regularly enter.

I guess the closest thing to social media i use is twitter.com/emmyrlim and twitch.tv/emmydiesalone but im not very active

What is your name, age, and location?
Hi everyone! I’m June, aka Juniper and I’m a max level (25y/o) TX lady.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I’ve been playing DOTA for almost 3 years and my MMR is 3.5k ish. You cares mmr? My position varies — I enjoy playing 2 but will probably end up playing 4/5.. because that’s DOTA.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
The One True King of pubs, Necrophos. I know, I know, most do nothing hero blah blah blah. But, is there a greater satisfaction than ks’ing with scythe? Adding radiance to heartstopper aura is my jam. insert eye roll here
My least favorite is probably Bristleback…I think. Those quill stacks still haunt me at night.
My July project is to make my hero pool more versatile so I’m spamming each hero 10x each.

Besides losing mmr I do circus lady things. I studied ballet and gymnastics for the first 15 years of my life and later taught yoga. Neither brought me the joy and adrenaline kick that aerial life has. Whether it be flying trapeze, pole, lyra, or contortion, I’ve probably got a bruise for it.

my favorite dota moment was probably when i soloed an enemy kunkka who had 20 kills as enigma with aghanim’s and a refresher orb ;0

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community?
more respect, honestly. im tired of hearing “girls shouldnt play games like x” “i can tell shes gonna feed” etc.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
arc warden is my favourite, least is probably bane(KS MASTER AMIRIGHT)

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
casting, definitely

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
my favorite pro is probably Miracle :3 i look up to him as a carry main

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
i want to get better at last hits/denies and decision making, as they are my 2 main issues

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies?
my favourite thing about desoladies is how warm, welcoming and righteous all you gals are <33

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
reptiles, sketching, band

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota?
chill music(breathe – telepopmusik, tobu, mayday parade, etc.)

What is your favorite meme lane, team comp, or build?
definitely rupture shenanigans. bs, tusk, magnus, all gets aghs, bs ruptures target, tusk kicks target to get insane rupture dmage, and magnus pushes them back for more damage

What is your name, age, and location?
Hi I’m Rachael, aka Dornes, and I’m a 21 year old British gal.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I’ve been playing dota since December 2014ish??? My crrent mmr is 725 which I know is absolute trash but eh I just want to have fun. There’s definitely a demand for that bracket on twitch because the meta goes out the window and it’s just game after game of utter nonsensical chaos. I didn’t actually get my MMR until a few months ago as ranked scares the hell out of me, but I’ve been playing a lot more since they brought out the true solo ranked as its easier to reason with individuals rather than parties (sometimes!).

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite? My favourite hero has to be Techies. I know I know! Don’t hurt me! Techies was a hero I picked as a joke and then started looking up info on and I just somehow fell in love with the lil trio. Some of the multi kills I’ve got with them have been glorious and even when we’re losing I’m having a blast (heh) because I can make the win feel like a loss…. What does that say about me I wonder?! Pretty pleased with my 73% win rate on 58 games tho. My least favourite hero would have to be Batrider because I’ve just never played him and felt super impactful??? I like being able to do things!!! My least favourite hero to play against at present would have to be chaos knight because the man turns into a fleet of ice cream trucks hell bent on mowing you down.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be? I think it goes without saying that I would love to be able to stream as a job. I started streaming at a point where my life had basically fallen apart and I had to drop out of university because of health issues, and it just gave me a sense of purpose and so much well needed confidence. My selling point as a streamer isn’t that I’m remotely good at Dota 2, I just play like an idiot and enjoy making people laugh.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they? It might not seem like a lot to most, but I would love to reach 1k mmr. I feel like I am (very, very, very, very) slowly getting better and getting into those quadruple digits would make me so chuffed.

What is your name, age, and location?
My name is Amanda and I’m from Montreal. I currently live in Windsor NY, I say currently because i enjoy moving around a lot. The First Panda is a Tribute name to an old clan i used to be a part of back when i played Dota 1; The Panda clan would put something before “Panda” and that would be their name, eg: Golden Panda. We played almost everyday.I have been playing dota since version 1.24b, mostly just messing around with friends until around 2010 when i really started to enjoy watching professional Dota. After about a year of watching pro dota i chose 2 favorite teams  those were Team DK and Orange Esports, unfortunately Team DK is no longer with us :(. I like to check up on what Orange Esports is doing as far as roster and strats. I’ll probably always have a special place in my heart for them and some of the old players :).

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
My current solo MMR is 4300 and my party is 3600, my playstyle in dota depends on what my team needs but my instincts are to try to think as if i was on the enemy team and look for opportunity for my own team; It’s kinda like playing chess against yourself, my eyes seem to be on the minimap 60 percent of a game give or take ^^;. I love offlane in pubs but i think i would enjoy support a lil more if i was on a team because maybe then i can trust the players around me to communicate and change the pace of the game. i regret not taking the game a little more seriously back when i used to play with Lumi and Merlini on Garena when i was a teenager, maybe i would have been a star like them or at least a more skilled player :stuck_out_tongue: I do love watching Merlini’s content ^^.

Have you ever been to a LAN?
Despite my late start in playing competitively I’ve been to many local lans in Montreal and i participated in LAN of the Dead back in 2013 in Windsor Canada, we won first place  and got some cool Logitech swag :P. Any team that can punish divers is my kind of team comp :P. When im in a bad mood i listen to music while playing, i pretty much like all music except for Polka and even then i have some exceptions that ill listen to. i usually don’t listen to anything. IF i could have, i would have loved to be in a legit team that took things seriously and put dota as a priority. unfortunately i think its too late for me to dream to be a contender because i can’t play more than 3 hours now with out really bad pain in my legs, back, neck, forearms, wrists and hands >.<. A new love since 2014 of managing has been developing, id love to continue to manage a tier 2.5 or tier 2 team to the top :P. I’m great at networking so managing came easily to me.

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community?
I think Desoladies should hold some more LANS or tournaments, i enjoy the community Desoladies has gathered and im happy to see it growing :). I hope they just keep on keeping on, if good communities exist then just by that they change the dota 2 community for the better :).It is delightful to experience how different it is to play with more women, since i became a part of Desoladies. Since 2013 i have been playing with more and more women in dota and it makes me happy because it was SO rare growing up with dota to experience that.

Why do you play Dota?
I think i come back to dota over and over again because there is so much more reward in winning a game because of all that you invest in it. There are more variables to consider than in any other MOBA in my opinion. It satisfies my need to compete. Id like to give a shout out to Defense of the Patience and TobiWan i have been a long time fan  and member.

What is your name, age, and location?
Yo, my name is Alex, aka Sheepsticked, and I’m 20 years old and from the UK! Trying my hardest to make people think of Meepo when they hear my name.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
Speaking of… My favourite hero used to be Disruptor, but I made friends with a lad from up north who was pretty damn good at Meepo for our skill bracket at the time, and he inspired me to learn the hero myself. 1100 games of Meepo down the line and he’s the only hero in the game I really just have fun playing over and over again. There’s always something new you can do on the hero, and his playstyle is very attractive to me. Mostly I enjoy the crazy cool micro plays you can make, it’s so satisfying to pull off some successful micro. My least favourite hero to play is Ancient Apparition, I think all of his skills are incredibly boring bar his ult, but even that’s only cool if you hit it. Least favourite to play against is Tinker. I hate Tinker.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
Probably SirActionSlacks! I always liked him when he first popped up in the scene, but since then I actually got to talk to and work with him on some stuff, as well as meet him at an event, and he’s honest to god just one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. He puts out so much energy into what he does, and spends loads of time interacting with fans. He took the time out to compliment and encourage my work, as well as offer me work for some of his projects and twitch channel; coming from someone whose work you admire that meant a lot to me and still does. I’d like to also give a shout to Capitalist who’s been really nice and cool to me alongside being an amazing caster.

What are your Dota goals?
I have two main goals. The first is to reach 7k MMR, because even though it’s not much in terms of professional players, I think 7k is where you can say a player is actually good, and most people will be reasonably impressed by that. I’m only 5k right now and have a long way to go but I think I can grind it out eventually. My second goal is to compete with a team, even if it’s just in amateur tournaments. I haven’t stuck my foot very far into that door though but I intend to when I raise my MMR a little more.

Why do you play Dota?
To try and prove myself. A vocal part of the Dota 2 community does come in Reddit, and I read it every day. There’s a general opinion about women that they’re not good at the game because there haven’t been any professional female players yet, the closest any have come (as far as I’m aware) is reaching the second part of the qualifiers for a Major, and there’s extremely few high mmr females (7k+). I keep playing Dota because I want to get better and improve until I can make enough of an impact to start to change the opinion about women in Dota.

What is your name, age, and location?
Hello, all! My name is Eva and I’m currently residing in Charlotte, NC, and I’m of legal drinking age in the US.

What is the origin of your username?
Bad Wolf comes from the Ninth Doctor’s season of Doctor Who. Without giving away any spoilers, there’s a line in the finale where we finally find out who “Bad Wolf” is and the reveal really resonated with me, “I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself.”

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I’m a brand new to Dota! I’ve only been playing since November 2016. Is there a -3,000 MMR because I’m pretty sure that’s where I fall! Haha

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
My favorite Dota moment has to be playing inhouses with the Desoladies and Allies. I asked if I should be so far out by myself and got a resounding, “NO!” In unison! Needless to say I now utilize the buddy system before crossing the river. sweat_smile

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
I would LOVE to get to the point in Dota where I’m comfortable playing ranked matches. That may seem like such a simple goal for most people, but it seems like a lifetime away for me.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies?
My favorite thing about the Desoladies has to be the positive and encouraging nature of the group. Being a new player can be intimidating and being part of the Desoladies has allowed me to learn in a safe environment! Every single person I have met has been nothing but welcoming.

What is your name, age, and location?
My name is Thuy-Tien. Most people have difficulty saying it and then things get awkward. :stuck_out_tongue: In which case, just call me “Twee”. I’m 25 and partying it up in Northern California aka the Bay Area. I often visit the Southern part because Los Angeles is a great area for esports. I plan on studying my masters in Europe and live there for a couple years. 😀

Have you ever been to a LAN?
Yes I have! Many times in fact. I think it has become an addiction, halp. I didn’t go to any LAN events until I got more involved with esports 2-3 years ago. I participate in small get togethers with friends where we lug our computers to one house and play games all day. Sometimes alcohol is involved and hilarious gaming moments ensue. 😀

In my last year at my University, I was one of the two organizers for our quarterly LAN events. It was so much fun to attend and organize. We had over 150+ attendees!

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
It’s hard for me to choose one thing as I would love to do many things professionally in gaming. What I want the most is to be a content creator or a talent and work in front of the camera. I think it would be neat to be a part of the panel one day!

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
I have many to name, but I’ll do my best to narrow it down. For pro players, the ones who stand out most to me is JerAx (for his playstyle) and Aui_2000 (for his past pro dota 2 history and the way he approaches dota).

For personality I have always been a fan of SirActionSlacks and Purge. The first time I watched competitive Dota was TI6. I was blown away by the production value Valve had done. What caught my attention the most was the segments with Slacks + Kaci and weatherman Purge. I made it my mission to meet Slacks in person, in which I did for the first time at the Boston major! I also got to be in one of his video, which made me explode with happiness that day.

Why do you play Dota?
I play dota because I love the game. I want to be able to understand it the more i play it. Because of how complex Dota 2 is infamous for, I became addicted to the challenge. Dota is another game where I can bond with my friends. I also get to make new friends too! (Like Desoladies <3)

What is your name, age, and location?
Everyone calls me 4rty. 27 here. Currently, I’m in Florida, This summer, I’m moving to Seattle.

What is the origin of your username?
From Art3mis, the female protagonist in Ready Player One book (must read book!). Plus, I like no.4. Hence, 4rtemis

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
When Evil Genius won against E home’s megacreeps last Ti6.

Have you ever been to a LAN?
Just Ti6.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
JerAx. Always a treat to watch his roaming skills.
Suma1l god. He is just a consistent god like player, win or lose. 🙂

Why do you play Dota?
DOTA sucked my soul. I will have DOTA withdrawals if I stop playing….Lul.
Kidding aside, I’ve played dota 1 before. I started playing again when dota REBORN came.

What is your name, age, and location?
My name is Jasmine. I’m in my late twenties. I’m Canadian, although I’m currently working towards my PhD at a university in California.

What is the origin of your username?
I created my dota account immediately after I made a sock puppet, and it was the first thing that came to mind! I actually didn’t realize it was a rather unpleasant political term until rather later. Why was I making a sock puppet? My classmates and I made a skit, and made the potentially poor decision that it should feature sock puppets. You can see my sock puppet in action here – you might recognize it from my in-game profile pic: https://youtu.be/H3ITxfsLefY?list=PLD0EODFaxoZueix4q28BL01EuwPtR9pV-&t=185

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite??
Right now, I love Disruptor! I’m not sure there’s anything more gratifying than a good glimpse. My least favourite hero to be up against is probably Lifestealer. The magic immunity can be so annoying to play against, and he can combo so well with so many other heroes.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
My favourite, Windranger, with Crystal Maiden as a close second. My least favourite to fight is a boring answer (Techies). Least favourite to play would be any melee hero, I am bad at positioning and not dying.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
I would like to be the first ever professional Dota 2 chef. I’m not exactly sure how this endeavour would be funded, but I’ve really enjoyed making food inspired by Dota 2 heroes and items. (Pictures: http://www.itsallgeekto.me/2016/10/dota-2-international-6-viewing-party.html)

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota??
If I think about it, there are pieces of my personality that show through in my playstyle. I like to lead from behind the scenes, which I think shows in my gravitation towards support heroes. Both in-game and in real life, I think I should be more confrontational (towards the enemy – never your team mates!) and be more open to taking calculated risks. I think Dota has actually increased my willingness to communicate more with people I work with, and improved my ability to phrase things in ways encourage productive behavior, rather than commanding a desired outcome.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies?
I like the friendliness of the community. I feel comfortable turning here for advice or feedback, and I’ve gained some really useful insight that I’ve put to use in my dota games. It’s supportive.

What is your name, age, and location?
I’m Jamie, and I’m a 24-year-old history student from Scotland.

What is the origin of your username?
It’s a nickname my parents gave me when I was very little, because it sounds like my name.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I started in 2013, and my first pub match was as Crystal Maiden (1/11/1). I don’t play ranked, but my OpenDota estimated MMR is 2280.

I’d love to do something to help foster more diversity in personalities or players, whatever form that help might take.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
I get really tense when I play, because I’m scared of being shouted at. I’d like to learn to soothe my nerves and keep calm in the face of abusive players.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
Apologetic.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies?
Everybody is lovely and kind. It’s nice to see a Dota community that strives to be positive and welcoming to everybody.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
I like to draw and read history, and I’ve been thinking about trying to get into water-colouring. I also do a bit of voluntary work where I can.

What is your name, age, and location?
My name is Þórdís (Thordis), I am 28 and from Iceland.

How long have you been playing Dota and what is your MMR?
I started playing in late 2013 and made my pub debut during Wraith Night. My MMR is just about 2K. I keep planning to improve that number but somehow it never happens.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
Become a (much) better player and record my cover song with Dota lyrics and have Dota content as a video!

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community?
I’d really like the Desoladies friendly, inclusive and supportive attitude and environment to spread to the community as a whole.

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
Knitting, make up, singing, coloring, cooking. I also do some gaming related fuse beads (perler). I’d like to add gardening to that list but currently have no garden 🙂

favorite hero is broodmother mostly for aesthetic reasons. Least favorite is meepo, hes super annoying

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
If I could do one professional thing within gaming I would probably like to go back to being a pro gamer. I temporarily was a pro gamer for awesomenauts but after only a few matches in the league my team disbanded because no one else was turning up for practices/matches.

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota?
my favorite music to listen to while playing dota 2 is nightcore. I will usually find a 1 hour mix of various nightcore songs and stick that on, especially if im streaming and want some varied background music

I first played in 2013 but didn’t start to play properly until January of this year when I decided my friends probably weren’t going to stop playing at this point and now I’m really enjoying it! I found getting into the game really hard but am glad I pushed forward.

Have you ever been to a LAN?
Many, me and my IRL friends have the occasional house LAN (me and my BF get to host this year!) and I’ve been to a few of the iSeries, a series of large LANs set around the UK 3 times a year. None of these were really Dota related though!

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
I’d love to keep my current profession (nurse) and translate it to gaming but after some research the only healthcare job roles in eSports seem to be for physiotherapists : (

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
Lots! I enjoy running (sometimes, other times its awful – shout out to DotP for making it better), reading, gardening and cooking among other things.

Why do you play Dota?
I started playing Dota because it was what my friends were playing, but I stayed because I can see myself progressing which I love, it’s a challenging game that I feel I might be able to be kind of okay at some day! After being introduced to the community (which is amazing) that’s also another great reason to stay.

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
Favorite hero 100% hands down is Slark, then close 2nd is Bloodseeker :p Least favorites are Invoker and Meepo.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
I love being able to play and fight independently, to be able to make pick-offs and ganks on my own without relying on my team very much and getting in and out of fights quickly. Hence my favorite heroes above!

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
I always daydream about being a pro player! I would need to dedicate a lot more time improving my skills so besides that streaming has been the next best thing I can do. I can’t afford to do it full time but I really enjoy spending all my free time online doing what I love.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
My current goal is to return to 4,000 mmr pointy points. Volvo pls giff me moar. I worked so hard to reach it and maintained it for over a year then suddenly took a nearly -1,000 crash and have still been recovering, but I know I can do it again.

Who is your favorite pro player or personality in the Dota 2 community?
SirActionSlacks! He has shown me so much kindness over the years. He randomly hosted me after one of his streams, and has been a friend to me ever since. I was living in Colorado at the time and we met up for dinner and he is just such a genuinely caring individual. He always has so much to talk about and really wanted to see me do well. I was so excited as well to see how much he has jumped into the scene the last few years he really works hard and deserves it all!

Do you have any hobbies besides gaming?
Some of my hobbies include hanging out with my daughter, softball in the summer months, and volleyball in the winter time.

What music do you listen to while playing dota?
This is a tough one for me because I listen to so many different genres of music. I usually have my 90’s rock/pop playlist on during dota or sometimes alternative country. My tryhard song is The Drift, By Blackmill.

Why do you play dota?
So, I started playing Dota when my husband and I first started dating. I was a HoN player at the time and he was a League player. Neither of us wanted to switch over to the others game so we both decided to start playing dota together. I still dont know why I play dota, it raises my blood pressure, stresses me out, and is the only thing my husband and I ever fight about, but I love the game and probably wont ever stop playing it.

For terrible jokes, twitter: @captainpenturff
Instagram: Mpenturff

What is your name, age, and location?
I go by MJ out in the meat world. I’ll be 24 in May, and I live in the US, namely New Jersey.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
Being able to game professionally would be a blessing on its own, but what I’d really like to do is put myself out there as a role model, particularly for other trans individuals who might be nervous or scared about being open over the internet.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
I still have so much to learn about the game and how to play it. Really my main goal is to get more hours under my belt and be able to join my friends for quick matches and such. Competitive is a ways off yet. confounded

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
My biggest hobby is writing – I do a lot of tabletop gaming online through fora like Myth-Weavers. I’ve also been trying my hand at a novel, though it’s slow-going and mostly brainstorming at this point. My online handle, Yatogami Odin, is actually taken from a character from that novel. I draw a lot of inspiration from anime and manga, which together with writing and gaming round out my top four hobbies.

What type of music do you listen to while playing Dota?
I like to listen to music that gets my blood pumping, which usually means some kind of rock, or sometimes dubstep or EDM.

What is your name, age, and location?
You all know me as Kazzandrah, but my real name’s Crystal, but my friends call me Kitty (because I act so much like a cat.) I’m 22, and I live in Seattle!

Who is your favorite hero? Your least favorite?
My Holy Trinity, as it has so been referred, consists of TA, Invoker, and Oracle. Hated Trinity would be Tinker, Sniper, and Slark.

I’d give anything to be a pro player! Playing on a team, getting the chance to do what I love for a living – dream come true.

Do you have any goals related to Dota? If so, what are they?
I want to be a mid player. I used to play LoL (ew, yes I know, but hey, I converted!) and I thrived in mid. I came to Dota and uh… let’s just say I got wrecked and now I’m a little scared to get back out there again. I also want to reach 7k MMR (I’ve got a LONGGG way to go.)

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
I love drawing! And taking pictures. I have a thing for polaroids. I also do a bit of modeling when my photographer friends ask for it 🙂

Social Media: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook: @kazzandrahplays

What is your name, age, and location?
I’m Syn, age 24 and I am based in London, UK!

Who is your favourite hero? Your least favourite?
Death Prophet is my favourite- 2SPOOKY4U! Honourable mention to the melon monster Tidehunter and his pure rofl taunt. Huskar is my least favourite; people that enjoy playing that hero are sadists.

How would you describe your playstyle in Dota?
I’m the one who is always looking for a fight! Don’t put me on a farming core because I am too impatient to hit creeps for 30 minutes.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
I am a video games and esports lawyer, which I love! If I wasn’t doing this though, I would love to write my own game (maybe one day)!

Do you have any hobbies other than gaming?
I love reading (currently Hyperion by Dan Simmons), blasting out K-Pop, spending too much time on Reddit, going on wild European weekends away and learning other languages. Currently trying to crack German!

–Cristy Ramadani, Kosovo (originally US)

What is your favorite Dota 2 moment?
–I am a sucker for good storylines and underdogs! My favorite moment really was when Wings won TI6. To see a team form as relatively unknowns, stick together and charge forward with such passion and in their own style and terms is something I not only admire but cherish. Their react was priceless and seeing players reach their goals and dreams is amazing.

What do you want Desoladies to help change about the Dota 2 community?
–I really want to see Desoladies take a very active role in encouraging diversity and inclusion for women in Dota 2. More than being a place to connect, I think education and community involvement are paramount to make changes in the scene.

If you could do one thing professionally within gaming, what would it be?
–I have been a manager and currently co-manage Prodota Gaming, as well as am editor and writer for DotaBlast. I’m pretty satisfied with my place professionally, I only really wish to grow more in both of those capacities.

What is your favorite thing about Desoladies?
–Being able to interact with other ladies in the DotA community and talk about many #serious topics

What is your favorite meme lane, team comp, or build?

Why do you play Dota?
–I play DotA to enjoy games with friends and getting to know new people is very exciting, learning about their lives and different culture is a great insight to people all around the world, also the accents are very nice

Favorite games: Dota and Overwatch are my main games right now. Previously I lead a top World of Warcraft Guild (Blood Legion) for several years. Before Wow I played Dota Allstars and Quake 3 Arena.

Favorite hero: This is an impossible question because it changes every few weeks. Lately I have been spamming Underlord nonstop.

Favorite player: This is a hard question because I generally don’t pick favorites in this area. If I have to choose then… Universe.

Favorite foods: I eat absolutely everything. I am a huge foodie who loves to travel (I traveled out of my way to Noma) and try new things. I love salads, mole, and all spicy foods.

Unique talent: I can post on reddit and not get flamed (usually)

What is your favorite part about Desoladies: Meeting all of the amazing women in Dota and being able to talk to women who have had similar experiences to me. However many women you think exist in Dota – I promise there is more. So many women love and play Dota it has been overwhelming to see even just a small portion of it.

Social Media: twitter: @Lawliepop

Steam name: rabbit teef

Age: 26

Location: NYC

Hobbies: Video games, surprise! Listening to podcasts, improv comedy, indoor rock climbing! And looking everything up on Wikipedia.Favorite games: Dota 2 has completely steamrolled over every other game I have ever played and probably will ever play… Anyone else have that problem? Like with every new release, you get on the hype train and buy the game, and then it’s like “okay but this isn’t Dota. abandons game” …but Skyrim is a classic that I keep comparing every fantasy RPG I’ve played since then to. The Portal series had some of the best writing I’ve ever encountered in a game. The Pokemon series, getting every release is just tradition at this point. Bravely Default was one of my favorite handheld JRPG games I’ve played in recent time as well! I’m not sure how much I actually love World of Warcraft but I have played every expansion since Burning Crusade.

Favorite hero: It changes, but currently I think my favorite to play is Weaver! disgusting mouth sounds. Pugna + Aghs is super fun to just be annoying as fuck with too. I have the highest win-rate on Lich and Winter Wyvern though.

Favorite player: Oh boy, okay, I’m not going to pretend like I keep up with the pro games consistently throughout the year but I honestly love iceiceice. RIP VG

Favorite foods: It’s hard to pick! I’ll eat anything twice! Cheese. Anything with Cheese. I can also eat Japanese food for lunch probably everyday (I almost do this anyway), but my roots in Sichuan, China, also lends itself to being able to eat and love spicy as fuck food.

Favorite place: Hard to say due to the Stockholm Syndrome I have from living in NYC, but Seattle is somewhere I visit often since my best friend lives there, and it’s so different from NYC. Way smaller town, beautiful summers there; I love being able to see pine trees and mountains in the distance everywhere. And the earthy crunchiness of its inhabitants is a nice change of pace!

Unique talent: I’m really good at ordering things off menus that I know will be tasty. I also seem to immediately lose the ability to smile properly in any photo that is being taken of me.Goals: I am strangely unambitious and too present at times, but I would like to just maintain the consistent level of happiness I have created for myself currently. I suppose it would be awesome if one day I could incorporate what seems like an unwavering interest in Dota 2 into what I do for a living, but not brave enough for that just yet. 😃
